Session Tips & What to Expect

Wondering what to expect from your photo session?

During my sessions theres lots of laughs, games, silly faces, singing, and fun. I prefer to capture your child as they are rather than force them to cooperate with stillness. Children are full of life and thats my job to capture that. I chase and tickle, and we do lots of high fives. I have a fast work flow, but at times we may literally stop to smell the roses and this will slow it down to capture the realness of your family. My tips for children who may be hesitant at first (or the whole time) is not to force it. I respect my clients parenting choices but disciplining your child while trying to get them to smile for a photo has never worked in the past. After all, I am a stranger to them, or feel like one if we haven’t seen each other in a year. They are using their best judgement and I work around this. Most times mid session they can’t help but join the fun and a little ice cream bribe never hurts either! If none of the above works, you may want to step aside with them for a moment to have a heart to heart. In my experience some cheeky little ones act out until mom and dad “disappear” . Most often theres just too much fun for them to realize this isn’t everyones favorite thing to do…..ahem…..dads!

Overall, I love for my families to be natural. tickle those kiddos, kiss your lady dads, and most of all just love on your family. And like you can see below from my little lady, a little crying can be cute sometimes. Whatever it is, I just roll with it.

I had to pleasure of seeing this family before I head off into hibernation as we expect our own baby #2.   It felt so good to pick up my camera again and get in one last session. Little Evan is going to be a big brother very soon. For the record, I’m guessing GIRL!

Hudson came to see me a couple months ago for his 1st Birthday session and I just kept thinking, has it really been a year already??? A little hesitant, but always gives a few smiles, He dove into that cake with a little encouragement.  I’ll admit I had a little taste too! Way to go Dad for that tasty cake!

Remember when I said I love meeting new clients? I love seeing repeat clients even more! I met the Gleason’s for this babe’s newborn session a few months ago. Tough cookie she was, well still is, but that smile makes it all worth it.

I love meeting new clients. Its a total bonus when they are fun as this family. Its not often I photograph a family with an older child. By older I mean above 3, so we had an excellent night full of laughs. Littlest Haven took a few to warm up but she did great, and Neveah is clearly a firecracker. I hope to see them back every year and watch these two girls grow up ❤
